‘We're proudly Canadian': Calgary company hopes to cash in on increased defense spending
A Calgary munitions company is hoping to cash in on an increase in defense spending announced at the NATO Summit Wednesday.
Canada's increased commitment to defense spending has one Calgary company hoping to cash in.
FH Munitions is a commercial manufacturer for pistol, and rifle ammunition – and brands itself as a favourite for precision sport shooters and law enforcement.
Calgary-Shepard MP Tom Kmiec visited the facility earlier Wednesday.
With defense spending rising to meet the NATO commitment, the company is hoping to provide Canadian-made ammunition for the Canadian Armed Forces.
'There's no other facility like ours in the country,' said Taran Grey, vice-president of business development at FH Munitions. 'We're proudly Canadian. The challenge has just been getting the government's attention -and hopefully that will change in the near future.'
'If they want to come down here, I'd be more than happy to make it easier for anyone from the federal government to come visit the facility,' said Kmiec.
The munitions company currently has two production lines but has room to expand by 800 per cent.
